My name is Katie, and I love volleyball. I have had the privilege of playing as a starter on every team since 5th grade, both in school and, starting in 7th grade, in club ball. I have played one full season at Sacramento City College and am currently playing the fall season of my sophomore year. My goal is to play competitive volleyball in a four-year college where I can succeed as an athlete and scholar. I am a strong volleyball player, student, and well-rounded person. I am a 5'10 outside hitter and defensive specialist. My last tested standing jump was 9'1 with an approach jump of 9'4, but that was three years ago, and I know my numbers have improved. In addition, I have been working with Coaches Griff Joyce, Dave Berglund, and Bill Hanrahan (plussportssystems.com) in semi-private and private lessons for the past five years, and in the last year, have been assisting them in coaching clinics. I have also assisted my high school volleyball coach with the boys' team for the past four years, and occasionally, as time has permitted, assisted my elementary school coach with the newest volleyball players helping them to lay a strong foundation. I am continually striving to become the best player I can be and enjoy giving back to the sport whenever I have the opportunity.
I have a 4.08 GPA from high school, taking honors and AP classes all four years, and have maintained an A average in college with a current GPA of 3.788.
I also have participated in several missions outreaches through my church, including homeless outreaches, food bank outreaches, and have spent a total of three weeks (over two years' time) at Camp Barnabas, a camp for handicapped kids. In addition, I have participated in two short-term mission trips, one to Romania, helping with building projects and outreach ministries, and one to Uganda, assisting with children's programs.
My goal is to continue to play volleyball after transferring to a four-year college and to graduate with a degree in business with an international emphasis. I am also contemplating ESL teaching in foreign countries. I feel my path will become clearer as I advance through college.
I think I would be an outstanding addition to any volleyball program. I am a hard working, coachable player who will put in the work to be the best student, athlete, and person I can be.
