How I am involved in service in my community and why my effort is important to me:
I volunteer at a facility called Project R.I.D.E. Inc where physically and mentally handicapped children ride horses. I have volunteering there for one year and continue to do so twice a week. I originally started as a sidewalker, walking along the side of the horse interacting with the child that is riding. I then endured further training and became a leader, getting the horse ready for it's lesson and leading during the lesson. Now, I am able to do both and sometimes help in the office when necessary. I have made so many memories while there and am so blessed that I get to share the happiness with the children.
I also tutor a girl twice a week with Algebra 2. I have just recently began tutoring her and I believe she is making great progress. I enjoying being able to help others and work to improve there ability to advance.
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. One example of how I demonstrates leadership in both areas:
I have demonstrated leadership in volleyball by being voted captain 2 of my years on the high school varsity team. I am a very vocal player on and off the court and encourage my team. I feel that being a leader on my team is not only on the coach but off. On many occasions my team mates have been able to come to me when they were frustrated with things and I was able to give them guidance and to have there back. I am so glad that my teammates are comfortable enough to come to me when they are having problems.
I have also shown leadership being in the Link Crew at my school for my Junior and Senior years, welcoming incoming freshman to my high school. Over summer, the other leaders and I met up to prepare and then one day before school, the freshman come to our school. We play games and do exercises to allow the kids to become familiar with the school and so they have someone they can talk to during their first days of school.
How I pursue a "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete:
I try and always watch what I eat so I can perform at my highest level. I work hard at practice to ensure that my games are to the best of my ability. I place 110% effort always and stay active year round by playing for my high school varsity team and my club team. I also work out on a continuous basis.
