My name is Kaitlynn Zdroik, from Liberty High School in Brentwood, California (class of 2016) and I am very motivated to play volleyball in college. I am a well-rounded student athlete, who is a positive team leader and committed to improvement; attributes that I would like to apply in college.
Club Experience. For the 2015 club season, I was honored to compete on the NorCal Volleyball Club's 17-1 Black team. At the Far Westerns Qualifier in Reno Nevada, we earned a bid to the USAV Girls Junior Nationals Championships in the USA Division. We finished in the top half of the tournament where I had the best competitive performance of my season. Also, I was selected as the setter for a nine-player team representing the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) Girls 17U High Performance Program at the European Global Challenge Tournament in Pula, Croatia, 7-18 July. I am very honored to have had this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity. After a successful power league season with Pacific Rim Volleyball Academy in 2014, I was selected as a setter for the USA Volleyball A2 Youth National Team. In addition, I play beach volleyball and have won six sand tournaments with my partners to include first place in the 15U division NCVA Beach Volleyball Championships in August 2013 and second place in the 16U division NCVA Beach Volleyball Championships in August 2014, both held in Santa Cruz.
High school experience. During my Junior season in high school, I was the Team Captain, starting setter, and court captain for the Liberty High School varsity volleyball team. We competed in the second round of the North Coast Sectionals (NCS), which is the farthest our high school has advanced in over 5 years. I also earned First Team All-Conference recognition for the Bay Area Valley Athletic League (BVAL) as well as the Team Captain award, which I was very humbled to receive. As a sophomore, I also was the starting setter, opposite hitter, and court captain for the Liberty High School varsity team. My performance again earned First Team All-Conference recognition for BVAL and was the only underclassmen to receive this honor. Finally, I was the starting libero for the varsity team my freshman year, which finished first in BVAL and competed in NCS.
A well-rounded athlete, I am also a competitive swimmer earning most valuable player both my freshman and sophomore years on the Liberty High School varsity swim team. I was hand-picked and served as the team captain of this coed team as a sophomore. Additionally, I have competed at Junior Olympics, BVAL championships and NCS championships.
Academics and community service. Academically, I am working hard to maintain my 4.0 GPA and taking several advanced placement courses. I plan on taking the SAT and ACT during my junior year. I have been on the National Honor Society for the past nine years (since fourth grade) and honored as a BVAL and NCS scholar athlete the past two years for both volleyball and swimming. In addition to leadership on the court and in the pool, I have been a positive influence in the community. Involved in Girl Scouts for the past 11 years, I earned the Bronze and Silver awards for various community service activities to include coordinating and preparing care packages for overseas military members, collecting shoes for earthquake victims in Haiti, promoting anti-bully campaigns at the middle school, and organizing donations for a local animal shelter.
Competing in volleyball in college will give me an opportunity to continue to learn important life lessons while pursuing a college degree. Teambuilding skills, commitment to personal and team goals, time management, and supporting my teammates are all skills I look forward to developing further to succeed in college and prepare for the future. Thank you for your time,
Kaitlynn Zdroik
