Kiley Pittman '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Kiley Pittman. I want to be a college volleyball player because I love the sport. I also believe student athletics has and will continue to help give me the tools I need to achieve my life goals including becoming a FBI Special Agent. These tools are a strong work ethic, perseverance through adversity, teamwork, leadership, putting the good of the team first, learning from others, and thinking analytically and strategically. These will not only help me achieve my career goal, but also help me be a better member of society.        

An older cousin introduced me to volleyball when I was about 10. Because of this, I signed up for Future Stars, an introductory training program taught by Coach Tanja Eckart.  At the time, I played basketball and ran cross-country for my school, but found volleyball was my passion. I started playing club volleyball the next season and started playing for my school in 7^th grade. I have continued to train under Coach Eckart (who continues to be an important volleyball and life mentor for me) and played both club and school volleyball ever since. I am always looking for opportunities to practice. This approach has exposed me to a variety of coaching styles. It has also allowed me to learn and play different positions including defensive specialist, libero, outside hitter, and right side hitter. This has broadened my understanding of the game and helped me become a more versatile player.  

Off the court, I love learning. I have a 4.0 GPA and have made the President’s List. I intend to major in biology. I also enjoy learning about new places and cultures.  For example, I am in my second semester of Chinese. My family and I enjoy outdoor activities and travel. Because of this, I have been able to visit many places both within and outside of the United States. Some of my favorite places I have been abroad include Canada, Israel, Scotland, Ireland, and the Caribbean.

I was born almost three months early. When I was born, my dad put a handwritten note next to me in my NICU bed. It said, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.” I have lived by this motto and will continue to do so. I might not be the tallest, or even the best player on your roster, but I will fight and work the hardest for my school, my coach, my team, and myself.
