Personal Statement

I would really like to play a sport in college, whether it's Track & Field, Soccer, or another one of my sports. I think competing in collegiate sports would be an amazing experience that could lead to a very successful future for me. I want to become the best athlete I can be, and I feel that I can only become that if I am able to be a part of a collegiate team. Through my junior high and high school careers as a Track & Field athlete, I have always had a lot of fun training and competing. I know that I can easily continue most of my other sports recreationally, but Track would be a bit harder. I want to continue competing in Track at a higher level for as long as I can because I don't want to give it up just because I graduate high school. I would also like to be able to train consistently on proper facilities. I have never had regular Track & Field facilities available to me, so whenever I go to meets I always make the most out of the jumping pits, the flat track, and even the throwing pits. I only ever use actual jumping pits at meets unless I can squeeze a short practice in at another local high school that actually has a track. At practices I mainly do strength training in the weight rooms or run outside on the roads or along the athletic fields at Woodstock Union High School. The school does have a few hurdles that I can set up along a grassy stretch, and then there's a sand pit without a runway, but I never feel very productive when I train with these limited supplies. I am glad that I have been able to be as successful as I have been at meets, and I would like to continue with my success with better training that could hopefully foster my stronger abilities.

Academically, I have always been a straight A student. I have taken mostly honors classes when they have been available to me, but I've always made sure I can balance both my academics and athletics. I don't want to take too many demanding honors classes if all the required work will make me miss my sports practices, and I don't want to risk failing a class if I choose to compete at a sports event. One of the ways I have tried to keep a balanced schedule is by making the classes I'm more interested in priority with choosing honors. In other words, I will always take an honors science class and a regular english class rather than the other way around. I prefer science and math over english and history, and I would definitely like to continue a future in the field of science. I am not sure which science I would like to major in with college, but I am currently trying to expose myself to as many scientific opportunities as possible to find my strongest interests. My choices in classes, sports, and other experiences have still always kept me busy, but for the most part I have still been able to balance grades and athletic performance.

  • Spring season of 2016 was my 5th year of experience in track and field. None of the schools I've trained at have had facilities, so I use the school's weight room and other community facilities.
