Personal Statement

I have enjoyed the sport of Track & Field since I was 7 years old. Since I began to compete I have enjoyed watching and learning about the sport of Track & Field and following athletes that I admire. I became interested in the sport when my dad told me that I was very fast for a young kid and thought it would be a great idea to find a youth track club to join. I have been running ever since. While I have done very well over the 7 years I have competed, I did have a season in 2015 when I grew 6 inches in 7 months and my body hurt for much of that time and I was not able to train or put in the work needed to compete at the national level. I was able to see that when I sat out of practice and was not able to train hard, my ability to compete at a high level suffered. I did return to full competition in 2016 and in the last 2 seasons I have earned 5 of my 6 AAU Junior Olympic medals in the sprints and long jump.

I have learned that never giving up is important to success. Sometimes things that you want require a lot of hard work. I have also learned that many of my teammates look up to me because of my success and that means I have to be a leader. My parents have always taught me to be humble and let others speak about my success. My abilities in Track are gifts and I need to respect them. A big part of that is taking care of my body. I have learned that I have the ability to push myself harder than most other athletes my age. This has allowed me to reach my goals each season and set a good example for my teammates both on my club and school teams.

I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I have never received anything less than an A in any class. I look to keep this streak alive as I know my classes will only get tougher. I am currently in AP Classes. I would like to study sports medicine and work with other athletes when I am done running. I would like to receive a scholarship to run at competitive university and hopefully compete in the Olympic Games one day.

My dad has always told me that I am a very good athlete and I love to play Basketball and Volleyball. I plan on playing Basketball and Volleyball as an 8th grader while I am in middle school. It was very exciting to be selected as MVP of my school basketball team. When I get to high school I plan to focus on Track and school since Track is the sport I would like to receive a scholarship in.

I also enjoy participating in events at my church, going to youth group and spending time with my teammates outside of track and my other sports. I also enjoy watching Track & Field with my dad because he helps me understand the sport and shows me what it takes to get to that level of the sport.
