Amber Key '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Amber Key. I run for Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, PA. I attend Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School and I am a visual arts major. There are no varsity sports at my high school so I catch the bus every day and run for Westinghouse because it is my neighborhood school. I did the same thing last year for Peabody High School. I am 5'1" and I weigh 92 lbs. I also run for iSpeed Track Club where I am one of two team captains and I work very hard. It is difficult at times to manage attending one high school and participating in athletics at another. There are all kinds of factors involved including commuting, practice times, and bonding with the athletes that attend that school but I make it work and I believe it shows my determination and seriousness as an athlete. In my sophomore year, I came in 2nd place in the Pittsburgh City Cross Country Championship and I qualified for the Pennsylvania State Championship. I repeated that same performance in my Junior Year. In Spring Track, I placed 1st in the city in the 1600 meter and 4th in the 800 meter at the Pittsburgh City Championships. I have also qualified for the USATF Cross Country and AAU National Championships. I placed 11th in 2009 at the AAU Cross Country Championships in Orlando, Florida. I've qualifed for the Regionals in the 800 and 1500 too. I am always ready to compete locally and nationally. I am also a solid student. I am a member of the National Arts Honor Society and the National Honor Society. I have a desire to run in college. I'd like to stay within a 5-6 hour radius of Pittsburgh but I am flexible and would like to go where the opportunities are best and where I can really help my team. It is really important to me to be in a strong team environment. I am flexible with big or small schools as long as the academics are challenging. I am also open to attending an HBC. My desired major will be the arts. I would really like to have a career in media as a set designer or photographer because that is my major at Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School. I believe I am a good candidate for recruiting. I have the right mix of academic and athletic achievements and I have strong family support. I would like to visit schools to decide my path and I appreciate this opportunity.
