Personal Statement

I have been involved in sports since I was 8 years old. These sports include basketball, volleyball, and since my freshman year, track.  As a freshman, I was a starter and lettered in all three of these sports. I was honored by my volleyball team with 2 peer awards……. “Most Energetic” and “Most Winning Spirit”.  During my freshman year I decided to try track for the first time.  With no prior training or experience, I came to the team and found instant success by placing in every meet, earning 2nd most points for my varsity team, and receiving the All Conference Award.

As a sophomore, I once again started as an OH for volleyball. I received the All Conference Award in volleyball for my overall stats and leadership qualities. I did not return to basketball in order to train for track due to my success as a freshman, and will no longer continue in basketball due to continued successes.  Success in my sophomore year included earning 2nd most points, receiving the All Conference Award, and breaking United High School's triple jump record and the 4x4 record.  My biggest achievement my sophomore year , as a result of working hard and believing in myself, was placing 3rd at the PIAA State Championship in triple jump.

In my junior year I continued to play varsity volleyball. I was honored to be elected captain by my teammates because of my positive attitude, leadership, and work ethic. While in volleyball I continued to train for track.  After volleyball I resumed a more focused practice time for track with strength training and drills. When track season arrived I found success as a result of growing stronger and faster.  Once again, I received the All Conference Award.  I PR'd in 3 events: the high jump, which resulted in breaking my school's decades long standing record; I increased speed in the 100 hurdles; and increased my distance in long jump. After running the 300 hurdles at our district meet (the 3rd time all season) I qualified for the PIAA State meet. I did not qualify in my other events which was disappointing. Even though the season didn't end the way I wanted it to, I am focused on the positives. I have a lot more to learn and a lot more potential. I am looking forward to my senior year.  I will continue to achieve personal records and meet some unmet goals!

I work hard academically and work to maintain honors and high honors.  As a result of hard work, leadership, and service I have become a member of the National Honor Society

During my Saturdays over the winter I enjoy helping others by volunteering to work with the local youth basketball program.  I have also been chosen to be the student ambassador for the Wellness Committee for the United School District.  I also mentor the younger girls coming into the track program.  I am jokingly referred to as a track "mom".  I love to encourage others, especially my teammates. If I work hard, and encourage and expect my teammates to work hard, we all succeed. Older students have worked with me and have made a positive impact. I hope to do the same now and as I get older.

I am a well conditioned diverse athlete. My determination, competitiveness, and drive to be a better athlete, student, and person come from my faith and my family. I love winning and I love success. I love the feeling of accomplishment after working hard. My goal is to continue to achieve and compete beyond high school.

Thank you for your consideration!
