My name is Nicole Hallenbeck and I am currently a junior at Taconic Hills High School. As an 8th grader on varsity I knew I had some goals I wanted to accomplish. As a Pentathlete I also knew I had to prove myself to be noticed. My 8th grade year I was 3rd in the pentathlon for our conference, then went on to win 1st in our section. My freshman year I was 2nd in our conference, 1st in our section and 5th in state qualifiers. My sophomore year I was 1st in our conference, 1st in the section and 3rd at state qualifiers. And lastly, my junior year I was 1st in our conference, 1st in sectionals and 2nd in State qualifiers. I've beaten many of my personal records and I hope to continue that my senior year. I became interested in the sport when I was little. I competed on a USATF club team where I was the regional high jump champion and was 3rd at Eastern Regionals. I held age group records for my club team in the 400 meters, high jump, long jump and shot put. I have learned I like to win. I have found that when I challenge and push myself I see results. I also know that I am far from reaching my full potential but I am willing to commit the time and effort needed to realize my dreams.
I realize that being a student athlete will require me to manage my time and put in the extra effort to maintain my average to stay on Deans list and keep a good balance between my academics and my athletics. I plan on bettering myself by coming out of college with a 4 year degree and a certificate in the field I have the most interest in. With living in a remote area it took a great deal of traveling to attend club team practices, and track meets. Without my parents being committed and driving me everywhere there was no way I would have been able to be the athlete I am today. Thanks to my parents they have taught me to be a leader and that anything is possible as long as you try, as well as recognize that I have the ability that I can do anything I put my mind to.
