My name is Cassandra Pope. I am a student attending Oakland Mills High School who is very involved in the sport of track. My main events on the track team are the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. I also compete in the relays and sprinting when needed. In addition to being a member of the Oakland Mills, I am involved in the Chamber choir, Senior Dance Company, Varsity Cheerleading team.
Being an athlete is a great experience in so many ways. It has helped me become more open to new opportunities and has help built my self-esteem, as I am more outgoing now than before. The teams and organizations I am a part of have given me opportunities to network and work cooperatively as a team player. These opportunities will help me be successful in my life. Having an obligation helps me strive for more things and keeps me responsible in the sense that I am learning how to manage my time with schoolwork, team obligations and family time. I realize participating in sports is not just about doing the sport or having the name, it’s about commitment and responsibility. Being involved in sports, gives me the opportunity to demonstrate my commitment and dedication.
As a life long athlete I plan to have a career in sports medicine. I enjoy caring for and helping others. Being an athlete and a natural caregiver I believe this field would be the perfect match for me. I look forward to sharing my experiences with other athletes and advising others on the importance of caring for their bodies and mind to promote the healthy habits and improve the well-being of each individual I meet.
