My freshman year, I ran varsity in four events; 300 hurdles, high jump, and anchored the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams. In some meets we would also run the 4x400, which I would anchor, with my fastest split being a 61.0. I was the 2014 Sectional High Jump Champ, with a jump of 5’0. I placed second in the Three Rivers Conference meet and second in Sectionals in the 300 hurdles. We were also the Sectional Champs in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, as a team we were the 2014 Sectional Champs.
I also qualified for indoor state in the 60m hurdles, with my best time of 10.35. As a team we also qualified our 4x200 relay. I ran the 55m hurdles during one meet, finishing 5th with a time of 9.8 against larger schools in our area.
My freshman year was full of growth. From the start of the year to the end of the year I increased my high jump by 4” and cut three seconds from my 300m hurdle time. I finished the season with the second highest points on my team. The times I produced, as well as the progress I made during my first year of track go to hard work and dedication, as well, it shows the potential I have for the next level. My hard work and dedication to being the best I can is contributed to the time I put in during the off season. I work out three times per week with a local sports performance clinic, building my muscles and working on being explosive. I also work with an area track coach on my hurdling form, constantly working on improving my form and technique.
Being part of the track team has taught me leadership, dedication and strong work ethic. It has taught me without the hard work you will have very little success. In order to succeed athletically and academically you must put forth hard work and effort to reap the rewards. In addition, it also has taught me that others depend upon you, if you do not contribute your fair share to the team you let others down.
I want nothing more than to compete at the next level academically and athletically. It’s important to me to be as successful in the classroom as well, earning an elementary education degree. I want to be part of a College that promotes success in the classroom and on the track. I would like to be fully involved in all areas of a College and have a great experience.
