Personal Statement

My name is Kimberly Pugliese and I am from Mililani, Hawaii. I am a senior at Mililani High School, where I have participated in track and cross-country since my sophomore year. Running is my passion and is something I would like to pursue after high school at the college level and throughout life. My most important accomplishments for the 2009 track season include placing first and setting the record for the JV girls 3000 m run at the OIA Western Division Championship and the OIA JV Championship. Furthermore, I qualified for the HHSAA State Championship and placed sixth at states. I also received the Mililani High School Most Outstanding JV Girls Track Award. For the 2010 track season, my most important accomplishments were placing first and setting the record for the varsity girls 3000 m run at the OIA Western Division Championship and OIA Championship. I was able to improve my states finish from the previous year by placing third in the girls 3000 m run. In both my sophomore and junior years, I was recognized as an OIA 1st Team Western Division All-Star. I am looking forward to my senior season of track this coming spring and hope to continue improving my times. In addition to track, I also run cross-country. My most significant accomplishments include placing second at the OIA Western Division Championship in my junior year and first in my senior year. Some of my other accomplishments are placing second at OIA Championships and fifth at HHSAA State Championships for two years in a row. This season, I also served as head captain of the girl's cross-country team. The most important contribution that I can offer a team is my work ethic. I strongly believe that hard work is the key to success and Iâ??ll do what it takes to achieve my goals. I am a highly determined and motivated individual with high standards for myself. Moreover, I listen well to coaches and I always put my best effort forward. I am pretty open as far as the type of school that I am looking for. Academics are important to me when selecting a school because I want to receive a quality education. I want a school with high academic standards that will challenge me and prepare me for success in the future. In regard to athletics, I am open to any division level as long as I get to run. I am also open to Christian colleges. Financial aid is an important factor because my family has financial need. My intended major is in the field of business, possibly accounting, to be specific. After earning a bachelor's degree, I would like to pursue a masters or become a CPA. My biggest athletic goal is to perform at my full potential. I feel that I still have much room to improve and grow as a runner, and ultimately, my goal is to be the best that I can be.
