My name is Samantha Marumoto, I am a Senior at Punahou School and my best events in track and field are Pole Vault and Long Jump. I am 5 ft. 4, I weigh 125 lbs. I started track and field when I was in 7th grade, and this season will be my 5th season doing track and field. Freshman year I PR'd in long jump with a jump of 16' 5.5'' ft. I have the School record, JV record, and ILH (Varsity) record for the girls pole vault. (The ILH is the league that my school competes in). When I was a freshman, I was a member of my school's Varsity track team. During my freshman year, I pole vaulted 11 ft. 1 inch. During the 2012 summer season, I jumped 12'. My current PR is 12' 6'' (5/10/13). I received a grant of $500 from the John and Helen Fox Scholarship (from Punahou School and the Punahou 'O' Men's club). The scholarship is to recognize students who have "significant contributions in athletics and who also do their school work to the best of their ability, exhibit good citizenship, and work well with other team members and within their coaches' expectations and philosophies." I am dedicated and willing to do anything it takes to become a better athlete. I was a competitive level 8 gymnast before I picked up pole vaulting, so I know what it is like to be loyal to a team, but also how to compete as an individual. I have always wanted to participate in collegiate sports, and to be able to compete in track and field would be like a dream come true! I am looking for the best school that will offer me the most financial assistance. My high school is a very large school, so I am comfortable with a big campus and a large student body. The academic level of the school should be somewhat selective, because I am not a straight A student, but I do well in school. I would like to study Kinesiology or Physical Therapy. My ultimate goal is to compete at a DI school, but I am fully aware that this may not be possible. If DI isn't possible, I am more than happy to go to a DII, or DIII school because I love my sport. I enjoy the challenge of competing with other athletes that are as dedicated to track & field as I am. My family and I would like for me to receive a scholarship of some sort. My Athletic goals are to be able to compete at the best school I can be admitted to, and to compete with people who are at the top in their event(s).
