Hi, my name is Hunter Stimson, and I live in a small ski town known as Breckenridge, Colorado. I am second generation to be born and raised as a local living in Summit County. Coming from a background of Olympic skiers and athletic blood, you would imagine me to be extremely competitive and an all-around good athlete.
Starting in middle school, I have competed in three sports, soccer, basketball, and track. For the longest time, soccer had been my number one sport. As time went on and I got more competitive with each of my sports, I realized what an impact track had on me as an athlete and a person. I knew for a fact sprinting was the path for me, but another part of me would always lean towards the hurdles. As high school approached, I had to start thinking about whether I was going to continue track or soccer, since they fell in the same season. When spring came around, I ended up on the track team. I was placed into the 300 meter hurdles as my main event, which I had never ran before. I still ran the 100 meter hurdles, 200 meter run and relays, but the 300 meter hurdles always seemed to be my strongest run. Being a freshman in high school and never competing in such high levels, I had no idea what to expect. As each meet went on, my times kept improving and I was the fastest freshman in Colorado for 4A division schools, and ended the year in 30th. I have proved my determination and love for this sport in many ways. During my freshman year running, it was three weeks until states and I was a couple milliseconds from qualifying for states. Unfortunately, I had sprained my ankle during that time, but it didn't stop me from competing at my highest level. At the end of the season, I was awarded team MVP, and had gained the most points for the team. As a freshman, I was surprised, knowing this award usually went to an upperclassmen. As my years in high school continue, I know for a fact I want to continue track into college.
