Personal Statement

My name is Elysia Hodges, if you are like many you probably don't know how to pronounce my first name so I will help you out. Ee-lee-shuh. I have a passion for running that I came to find in high school, and I plan to follow that passion in college. I am a very open minded person when it comes to running different events. I used to think I was just a sprinter and now after three years of track I have accepted myself as a hurdler and a mid-distance runner. I am looking into being a multiple event runner in college as well. I am a very "coachable" person, meaning I am a good listener when it comes to improving. I am a friendly person and tend to get along easily with all people. I not only run for myself but I run for my team. I like schools that have a sense of team spirit, I like schools that have pride in their schools. I don't like to lose and I try my very hardest not to. When I do lose though, I take that experience and make it my motivation for my next race. I do get mad, I do get disappointed in myself, but I don't let it affect my future races. I can offer a college team an athlete who is versatile. I can offer an athlete who will always work hard. I have respect for the sport, I have respect for my team mates, and most importantly I have respect for my coaches. Running is what I love to do and it is something that I hope will help get me into college. I do not have the wealthiest family, but I am hoping my passion and performance can make up for that. I am not 100% dependent on my athleticism though, I know the importance of an education. I plan to look into psychology in college and possibly something in the field of Sports Medicine. I am not picky about where I go to college, big or small, I just want to get a college education and run at a college level. I prefer that to happen in California, where I am closest to home but I am not excluding out of state either. I am an open minded person. In college I plan to improve my running, and I plan to get faster.
