For as long as I could remember, running has always been a huge part of my life since elementary school. Once I entered high school, both my parents and my coaches told me that academics will always come before sports. Without maintaining a good GPA, I wouldn't be able to participate in track. And as I predicted, I maintained a 3.2 GPA and was able to compete that same year. At practice, I would push myself to work harder and to be a good teammate on and off the field. If the coach needed me to run in the relay or the 200M, I did so without question or arguing. Once my coaches told me that they could see me running at the collegiate level, that pushed me to become faster and stronger on the field. I'll also push myself to perform better in the classroom. Without the grades, there is no future for me in track and field. My long-term goal is to attend a university and earn my Bachelor's degree in Nursing while participating in track. Competing in track has taught me to push myself harder everyday and to be a good teammate on and off the field.
