Personal Statement

Dear coaches,

My name is Kellie May, and I am 17 years old and attending Northwood High School as a junior. Throughout my life, I have always loved sports. I tried every sport that I could growing up, and ended up playing soccer from the age of 5 until my sophomore year of high school. I was a huge fan of the game, but when I started running track my freshman year, I fell in love with it. I love the fact that you not only compete against others, but against yourself as well. I love doing a variety of events, and have competed in three heptathlons and a pentathlon at the indoor state meet. I have learned a lot on the track, like how to stay positive when you make a mistake, how to graciously deal with defeat, and how to use the gift that God has given me to honor Him.

I have also learned how to balance sports, grades, and extracurricular activities. I've had several years where I have been involved in ASB and sports, while keeping up my grades (including this year). I'm a very hard worker, and grades are just as important to me as track. In a very academically challenging high school, I have had to work very hard for good grades, but am still able to enjoy competing and training daily. I was the team captain on my club soccer team for 5 years, and the Frosh/Soph and JV high school team as well. I am a leader to others, but also understand the importance of being a team player.

I would love to go to a school where I can work towards majoring in the field of either nursing or teaching, and also compete on a track team where I can work hard to become a better athlete and compete against great athletes.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
