Ever since I was young, I have always been a very perseverant girl. If I set a goal, or started something, even if it was just a game of Monopoly, I always had to finish it successfully. Today, I am achieving my goals of becoming the athlete, student, and woman I have always strived to be. The spring track season of my sophomore year was the first time I have ever really set a huge goal. I wanted more than anything to get my 4x400 relay team to break our school record, and get to the CIF State Track Meet. We worked day in and day out to reach those goals. During this time, I learned so many skills that will help me in the rest of my high school track career, but also my college track and field career. I learned how to be a team player. There are so many track athletes that run for themselves, so they can know what it feels like to stand on the podium and get to walk around showing off their medals. I learned that every time I step on the track I run for my team. I run every race for them to score as many points as possible towards a team title, so we can all walk away with medals. Nothing is better than winning with a team behind you. I also learned how to be a coachable athlete. I make sure that I take every little piece of advice away from every practice and use it to my best advantage. I always trust my coaches with my training because I know they know what is best for me and what they are doing. I have never questioned any training workout because I trust my coaches one hundred percent. Using these skills, my 4x400 team smashed our school record by six seconds, and not only made it to the state meet, but we also made it to the state finals meet. It was the greatest feeling in the world getting to smash those goals, and now all I want to do is do it again, and again, and again.
