Since my family owns a triathlon shop, I've been involved in running and triathlon since I can remember. In retrospect, I was never forced to compete, but the crumbs were definitely laid along the path. The sport has taught me so many things I would not have otherwise learned and taken me places I would not have otherwise been. National Championships multiple years in Des Moines, Iowa to Orlando to the Carolinas to compete against the nations finest.
But, my journey has not been without challenges. Soon after I reached puberty, I began having severe stomach pains when at maximum effort. This did not work very well in cross country. I continued to push myself at the pace I expected of myself, but each race I would have to take a knee while leading the race and give up the podium. After numerous specialists visits, the problem was solved, and I'm back on the path to meet my goals.
I put in ridiculous effort in the off season and can't wait to crush my PR's in every event.
What makes me different? Most of us are driven athletically, but I'm driven both in my academics and in athletics. I have and will maintain all A's, taking advanced placement classes. I will continue this in college as I pursue my goal of entering medical school.
What does that mean for the school? I plan to raise the GPA of the team I'm on. I plan to not just achieve All American status, but I plan to help others on the team achieve their goals and our team goals as well. As team captain of the dance team and cross country team I understand what it takes to be part of a team and how when we work together, we help our school and our team achieve more. I guess this is why I want to run in college. Being part of a great team that achieves their goals is something I don't want to give up. It's something I will pursue for the rest of my life.
I was elected as an ambassador of our high school and have seen first hand the benefit that our athletic performances and scholarship can bring to our school in the media. In the future, I hope to be an ambassador for your college and your team.
I know I have been given much in my life, and I strive to give more than I get each day. I enjoy spending free time working to help fill needs in our city in my role as president of the student board of directors at MMS Charities, a 501(c)3 organization that puts on athletic events to raise money for charities including Joy to Life breast cancer awareness, the Red Cross, college scholarships, Child Protect, the Montgomery Area Food Bank and many more. Since 2009 we have helped raise over $350,000 for local charities.
