Bianca Derrick '11 Recruiting Profile

I am a 5'3" singles and doubles player from Chatsworth, CA and will be graduating in the class of 2011. I am a nationally and sectionally ranked junior for the past 7 years and I have been an All-State and All-League player for the past 3 years. I am currently in my junior year of high school and have played on our varsity team all three years. I started out playing #2 singles and would often times play #1 singles as well. In my freshman year I was named rookie of the year amongst five other freshman. I reached the semifinals that year of the division 1 mission league tournament for singles. In my sophomore year, I played not only #1 and 2 singles, but also #1 doubles. My partner and I won the mission league tournament for doubles defeating our rivals in the finals. We then competed in the southern section championships and finished in the top 8 team in California. I was named M.V.P doubles player of the year and female athlete of the year. In my junior year, I finished as a semifinalist in the doubles mission league tournament and was named 1st-String player of the year by the Daily News. Within these three years I led my team to three straight division 1 mission league titles. I can offer a team great leadership since in my junior year I was named captain. I know that nothing comes easy and only with hard work, determination, and dedication will I be able to reach success. I am the first one at practice and always the last one to leave because commitment means everything to me. Tennis has taught me to never give up and to always keep on fighting no matter what. Ideally, I would like a school on either the west or east coast. Financial aid will be very important, but nonetheless, I will be willing to travel anywhere in order to better my tennis career. I would love to pursue a career in Sports Medicine, specifically kinesiology. My goals coming into college would be to play as an incoming freshman, play at the most competitive college level possible, and to make a drastic impact on the team overall.
