D2 soccer colleges feature talented teams with high-level soccer players. At many top-tier D2 soccer colleges, it’s common to see D1-level athletes. However, D2 soccer colleges tend to have a slightly less demanding schedule than D1 teams, giving athletes more time for a life outside of their sport. For talented athletes who want some time to explore other interests in the offseason, a D2 program can offer a great fit.
Currently, there are about 265 NCAA D2 soccer colleges with women’s teams across the country. D2 soccer colleges offer athletic scholarships but there are fewer to go around than at the D1 level. It’s crucial to develop a relationship with the coach to learn more about how each particular program handles scholarship opportunities.
Held annually since 1988, the NCAA Division 2 Women’s Soccer Championship consists of a tournament that fields 48 teams. The championship game is usually held in early December and the title is currently held by the Central Missouri Jennies.
