Having played with the same group of girls through all my years of soccer prior to high school, earning the starting varsity goalkeeper position my freshman year provided me with an education that I had never expected. At first the difficulties were overwhelming, however, my passion for soccer forced me to adapt to my new teammates, my new coach, and a new coaching style. I knew it was crucial for me to be open to the advice, opinions, and ideas of my more experienced teammates, and most importantly my coach. This led me to accept my weaknesses and make it my ultimate goal to improve them. This resulted in my success as a goalkeeper; being awarded with numerous Honorable Mentions for Player of The Week, as well as an Honorable Mention for the All- Area Team.
Just when I thought I had overcome some of the biggest challenges I would face during my high school career, I went from a physically fit athlete, to becoming so ill that I could not move and was bedridden for three months. After several months of uncertainty about what was causing my affliction, I was finally diagnosed with Celiac Disease. At this point, I had to use all of my determination to adjust to and strictly maintain a new lifestyle. This is when I learned that being a successful athlete is not only accredited to what is implemented on the field but also in life.
With academics as my main focus, I am looking for a school to help me reach my academic as well as my athletic goals. I believe, my ability to interact positively with others, along with a positive attitude, talent, and constant determination will allow me to have a beneficial impact on your program.
