My name is Darcy Pope and I’m going to be in the graduating class of 2018 at Wheaton North High School located in Wheaton Illinois. It is a strong desire of mine to play soccer in college. For me, being a student/athlete is important because it will help me develop to become successful on and off the field during and after my college years. I intend to major in Education or Occupational Therapy. While being a student athlete I will continue to learn discipline, dedication, teamwork and responsibility.
Currently I play for NSA Premier located in Naperville Illinois and I am coached by Chuck Trinka. I am also playing on the Varsity team at Wheaton North High School and coached by Tim McEvilly where we play in the very competitive DuPage Valley Conference which is considered to be the strongest conference in Illinois. I’m usually the fastest player on the soccer field and I’m aggressive on and off the ball. When I am not scoring goals, I help my teammates score. I also play outside back if my speed is needed. My speed, foot skills, first touch, and the ability to comfortably shoot with both my left and right foot has allowed me to compete at a high level. Through soccer I have learned that I’m competitive, coachable and an encouraging teammate. I really value what my coaches say to me and I put it into my playing. I’m very competitive with almost everything, and I get this from playing soccer. Playing soccer helps a lot in my everyday life because it gives me that drive and motivation to be positive.
It is my goal to stay on the academic honor roll throughout high school and to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. It is my hope to join the National Honor Society when I become Junior. My freshman year I was on the Speech Team and I was inducted into the National Forensic League. My sophomore year I had a leading role in the fall play at Wheaton North. I am also in the Support the Military Service Club.
I’m confident that my hard work in school and playing club/high school soccer will help me to achieve my goal of becoming a student/athlete in college. I look forward to taking on the challenges that it will take to become successful.
