Hi, my name is Jayli Miyamoto. I live in Hawaii and I’m currently attending Castle high school as a senior. Throughout my life soccer has played a big part. I’ve been playing since I was five and have loved the sport ever since. I remember watching my first high school soccer game, and wanting to play on the field under the lights. As I entered high school as a freshmen, I tried out for the soccer team and was put on varsity. Being put on a team with girls bigger, faster, and more experienced than I, was very challenging at first but I quickly adjusted to their speed of play. Practicing with heart and the determination to get better, paid off when I started our first game of the season as center midfielder. This past season, I still continued to start and our team got second place in the Eastern Division, and got 7th in the state. I was named All State Honorable Mention all three years.
When high school soccer is not in season, I strive to continually improve my soccer skills. I've run for the Castle High School track team and played in MISO (Major Island Soccer Organization) and WISA (Woman's Island Soccer Association) soccer leagues. During this past MISO season, I was named the leagues top scorer (U19 Girls Silver with eight goals).
High school soccer has taught me skills needed throughout life and the sport. I had to work hard to keep up my grades so I could continue to play (although grades are very important to me). Balancing soccer, band and school was very challenging, but this has helped me learn that I am responsible, and I can handle myself while under pressure. On the field, I have learned how to put others before myself. This characteristic that I have, is what I think sets me apart from everyone else. I am a fair person and that is how I’d like to play the game. Being a center midfielder, you have to distribute the ball well. Although I am small, my speed and skill make up for it. My passes are almost always to my target, I am a vocal player, and I’m not afraid to take a shot when I have the opportunity.
The ideal college for me would be a four-year university. I would like a good balance between my academics and athletics. Preferably on the west coast with majors in physical therapy or kinesiology, but I am open minded to anything. I feel a Division II soccer team would fit me well. I will try my best at any challenge the coaches give me and strive to be the best player and student possible.
