For years I have known the game. For years I have played the game, and for years I have had love for the game. Now it is time to make a decision if I want to pursue the game or leave it in my past. I chose to pursue it. I began playing soccer at the age of five with support from both of my parents but my dad was my biggest fan. He supported me at every game and practice. He was there through both the wins and losses and he always had words on encouragement for either way the match went.
About a year and a half ago, at the start of my sophomore year, I lost my dad unexpectedly and it not only impacted me in soccer but academics as well. When this happened, I was faced with the toughest decision of my life, whether I should continue to play or just give it all up. After months of contemplation, I made the decision to play. Not for myself but for him. I made a promise to myself that I would pursue my dream with him by my side spiritually rather then physically.
It is my dream to play college soccer and make my dad happy from up above. I work hard and train hard every opportunity I get and even through the rough patches, I know one day, it will all be worth it. The pain and sweat is temporary, while the reward will be that much more satisfying in the end.
