Rowing has brought out characteristics in me that I never knew I had: persistence, perseverence, and relentlessness. I started out in the sport not being the strongest or fastest member of my team. There were setbacks, each of which I took in my stride and focused instead on improving my fitness and technique. My erg times improved and I was often recognized by my coaches for my ability the move my boat. I now know that I will bring these traits & skills to the table as a collegiate rower.
Further rowing has also influenced my academic performence in a positve way and I cannot imagine high school or college without rowing. Having an active lifestyle has improved my time management , helped my alertness during class and as also while studying, and has made me a healthier, happier person overall.
The above is why I aspire to row in college and to continue to improve as part of a team that is hungry for success.
