Passion, perseverance, discipline, and dedication. These are not only words to me they are also the foundation to my character.
My name is Jeni Schorling. I am 20 years old, I graduated from Westerville Central High School in May of 2015, and went to Lincoln Memorial University for two years playing lacrosse. I have been physically active in sports since I was four years old. Gymnastics was my first love for which I devoted 11 years of my life. I learned discipline in time-management, fitness, and nutrition. It got me through many physical challenges, helping make me who I am today.
During this time, I was introduced to Lacrosse through my older brother and father. My brother played Lacrosse for eight years and my father coached throughout that time, both starting out in the youth league and ending in High School. I carried a stick and threw the ball right alongside them, waiting for the day that I could play myself.
After finding out that I had a rare form of type 1 Diabetes in fourth grade, my doctor gave me an option of quitting gymnastics and going on insulin, or continuing the sport and staying insulin-free. I chose the sport. I did this for my health, but also because I loved it. But in time I decided that while Gymnastics was a true love, I longed for that team sport. And I knew Lacrosse was it!
The five years I have been playing lacrosse have been amazing, I truly love the sport and I couldn't get enough of it. I am looking forward to continuing on playing lacrosse in college and hope that I will be able to be the best that I can be.
I value my family and our relationship, we all independently have our jobs and careers and we find that they complement each other. Caring for others is something we all feel strongly about. This helped guide my decision to become a certified lifeguard with our City pools, teaching swim lessons, and being a coach at a gymnastics facility.
All of this has helped me decide on dedicating my life to helping others with their physical needs including nutrition. A major in Physical Therapy with a concentration in Sports Medicine along with a minor in Nutrition will help me work with youth around the country to further their goals while keeping them healthy.
