Personal Statement

I am a hardworking student and a hardworking athlete. I've maintained a 3.6 through 3 years of high school and look forward to taking 2 AP courses in my senior year in order to keep up the challenge academically, and to prepare me for the academic challenge of college. Last year I played 3 varsity sports plus travel/club soccer; this year I will play 2, and one will absolutely be lacrosse. Being involved in sports has helped me to improve my time management, establish and achieve goals, teamwork (and leadership) and of course commitment. I have also applied all of these traits to my academic performance in school and my everyday life - how I manage my personal time as well as the kind of friend and person I strive to be.

This past 2013 lacrosse season is when I realized the game of lacrosse was something I wanted in my life beyond high school. I wanted to continue playing throughout college. I've been playing lacrosse since I was in fourth grade. In my eight years of playing lacrosse I have become a leader both on and off the field. In 2012, when I was in 10th grade, I was granted the role of Team Captain of the J.V. high school team. Then, this past June, 2013, I was given the Unsung Hero Award by the Suffolk County Coaches Association. I was also voted the Most Improved Player by Sayville's High School coaches.

In addition to lacrosse I have played soccer for over ten years, for both school and club teams. I joined a travel team in sixth grade called Bayport Lady Thunder. We competed on the Division II level until our last season when we ended (end of my 9th grade) as Division I champions. After the Bayport Lady Thunder team (which disbanded at this point), I tried out and was selected to join the Bayport Lady Hurricanes. With that team we placed first as a Division I team and moved on to play in the ENYYSA Premiere league, in which we placed first again this past Spring 2013 season.

In addition to lacrosse and soccer, I play high school volleyball. In 2012 Sayville's Varsity Volleyball team advanced to the semi-finals. I have also played J.V. and Varsity basketball for three seasons.

My all-around athletic ability and drive is the reason why I want to continue playing while in college. Lacrosse has always been my favorite sport. Currently, my position is as a midfielder, but, I am versatile in other positions. I have moved into defense when necessary. (During my entire soccer career, I played defender. I can fight off the opponent or rush the net or aid my attack team when necessary.)

My academic goals are to attend a college with my preferred major (pre-physical therapy, allied health, etc.) and my dream is for that college to have a competitive women's lacrosse team that I am chosen to be a part of.
