Personal Statement

My family has been a huge influence in my life. My parents are great role models; they work hard to provide me with what I need. They also provide me with tools to help me succeed in life. This has inspired me to work as hard as I can to always do my best.  Every coach I have had says I am the most coachable player on the team. I feel I am a true student of every sport I play. I’m the one my coaches put it the game to execute play calls they have made. I want to play smarter as well as harder. My goal is to play lacrosse in college and succeed as a student athlete. I will do what it takes.

As an athlete I began my career as a hockey player at the age of five. In fourth grade I was looking for a crossover sport to keep me fit and improve my skills. My community started a new lacrosse club; it took me one season and I was hooked! What I’ve learned by playing these sports is that I love being a part of a team. I feel I excel in a team setting due to my unselfish, team-oriented playing. I value teamwork over individual play. Sports has helped me learn how important it is to learn from your mistakes and go out there the next time to do it better. At times I’ve struggled because of my small stature. I am strong and I am fast, but I’m small and there’s nothing I can do to change my size. What I have done is to learn to use it to my advantage. I can draw penalties, move in and out of tight plays due to my size and speed. I’m learning how to use it as one of my strengths.

I struggled in elementary school math due to severe test anxiety.  I froze and couldn’t complete tests so I got poor grades. One of my teachers helped me by doing something as simple as folding my test paper in half so it wouldn’t overwhelm me. Because of this I learned how important it is to look at things with a new perspective. Now I’m one of the first to finish my test and get a good grade on it. I always thought my sisters were smarter than me but this year I learned that I can get straight A’s and be the person others come to for help. I’m pleased with A’s and B’s but I always want to strive and make myself better. For this reason, I accepted the challenge my teachers gave me to join the advanced English program at my high school. Someday I hope to be a writer and along the way I hope to inspire students as a teacher the way my teachers have done for me.
