Abby O'Neill '21 Recruiting Profile

My passion for hockey started when I was living in Maine, and I had the opportunity to attend a University of Maine women's hockey game. I was overwhelmed by the athleticism and passion of the players, and decided it was time to trade in my gymnastics leotard for hockey skates. I was nine years old when I joined my first team, and I spent my first two years playing on a boys' house team, taking weekly lessons with a former NHL skating coach and playing on my backyard ice rink. This helped me to develop fundamental skating skills, which have differentiated me from my peers and allowed me to advance in my hockey career.

My main goals for collegiate hockey is to find a program that allows me to grow as a player, and also has an academically challenging education path. I was born in Ireland, I have traveled extensively and I have lived in Ireland, Maine, Colorado and Washington, so I am open to all geographic locations. In addition, I am completely open to all college hockey opportunities. I give 100% on and off the ice, and my coaches describe me as "extremely coachable," and a "positive influence on teammates." I was selected to be captain of my team this year and I have enjoyed the chance to make an impact on the growth and development of my peers. I have also played softball, soccer, and lacrosse and I really enjoy the team aspect.

I am currently a freshman at Eastside Preparatory School. I have maintained a 3.88+ GPA, and I balance my passion for hockey with my commitment to my education and my desire to give back through community service. I am truly excited to find a college that will provide opportunities for me as both an athlete and a student.
