Karsyn Keetch '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Karsyn Keetch and I am from Petawawa in the Ottawa Valley, Ontario Canada. I currently attend Bishop Smith Catholic High School in Pembroke, Ontario. I have been playing competitive hockey since the age of 7 and have recently been selected for the Ottawa Lady Sens Bantam AA elite program for the 2017/2018 season.  My current position is defence, but I am also able to play both wing positions when needed by the Coach.

I play a very physical and offensive style of hockey and I would consider my individual strengths to include versatility, durability and commitment. I am versatile in that I can play any one of 4 positions at any time to achieve the most important goal, the team’s success.  Durability can also be used to describe me in that I have not missed a game in over 4 years, and my practice attendance is 100%. I also pride myself on being a very coachable athlete, not only in hockey but also in all sports that I am involved in. I am fully committed to school, family and my health, but my main sporting commitment is hockey because of my love for the sport. Through the years of playing hockey I have developed many friendships and have learned that a positive attitude, commitment, and hard work does pay off.

Since starting hockey at the Novice level and playing boys hockey, I have pushed myself each season to increase my level of play, going from a C level as a minor Atom (U10) to AA Tier 1 in Bantam (U14). I believe that continual improvement has been the key to my development. During this time, my commitment and work ethic has enabled me to maintain an A average while continuing my hockey progression. In the process, I have been fortunate to make contributions to several tournament championships and appearances at Ontario provincial championship tournaments

As I have progressed, one thing that has become very apparent is the importance of academics. I am a believer that if your commitment level is high enough, academics and hockey can be combined to fulfill your dreams.  My goal for the future is to attend University and play varsity hockey at the Division I, Division III or ACHA level while obtaining my undergraduate education. Although I have not confirmed what my post-secondary studies will be, at this point in time I do have a keen interest in the medical or health sciences field. As I progress over the upcoming years, I am very excited to explore what each college has to offer, and also determine what contributions I would be able to make back to the school and the community.
