Playing Big - that's what I strive to do on and off the ice. I have dreamed of playing college hockey since I was very young. Everything I do is aimed at making sure I'm on that path.
On the ice, I am fast, agile and strong and I use all these to my advantage. Another huge strength of mine is that I'm a very smart player and have a real understanding of positioning, strategy and plays. I see the ice well and can anticipate how the play is unfolding. These strengths also make me very effective on the penalty kill as well as on the power play. I'm also offensively minded and when I see an opportunity to skate the puck in deep, I'm quick to take it. I have great puck control and protection skills, as well as good aim. (With these skills, I am also able to play up when needed.) I am a very focused player and though my quiet focus is sometimes mistaken for shyness - I am anything but!
I have a passion for not only playing hockey, but for being involved in the hockey world. I plan to pursue a career in Sport Management and to someday work for a professional hockey organization. I work hard in school taking honors, accelerated and AP classes. (I have a 3.8 GPA.) I have a deep-rooted work ethic - whether it's on the ice, at school, or helping out at home. (I realize and understand the sacrifice my family makes to help me pursue my dream.) I also took my level 1 referee certification when I was 14yrs old so I could work as a referee to help pay for some of my own hockey expenses.
I was inspired, in part, to reach for my goals by my grandpa (who sadly passed away when I was 14.) He was my biggest fan and came to watch me play whether it was freezing cold in Canada, sunny and warm in California, or half a world away in Prague and Sweden - he was there. (He was there in China too with my mom when she came to adopt me.) He accomplished many things in his life and his core values centered on work ethic, integrity and honesty. I proudly carry these values that he helped instill in me and I believe they will help me, along with my skill as a hockey player, to realize my dream of playing college hockey.
