My name is Ally Steffensmeier and I am a sophomore at New Ulm High School. I started playing hockey when our hockey association had a try hockey for free day when I was 8 years old. While the first time was difficult as I had only been on skates once before, it sparked love that has only grown. That year I tried every position and spent most of the year playing goalie. I liked playing goalie but found that playing defense suits me better. My greatest memories of growing up have involved hockey. The best one is when our 14UB team won the state championship. The 2017-18 is my third year on the varsity team for New Ulm. This past spring I was selected to go to the High Performance State camp and was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection. This past fall I played in the Premier Prep League and Southern Minnesota 4x4 league. I was selected to play in the All-Star game for the Southern MN League.
My goals for my future include playing college hockey while getting a degree. I want to excel on the ice as well as in the classroom. I want to walk out of college with the best education and training for my future. It will be so exciting if I can do that while playing the game that I love.
I work very hard to improve myself as a hockey player and a student. As I student I take courses that challenge me. I was able to take and pass the advanced placement test allowing me to get college credits while still in high school. I take honors math and advance placement history. I know how important academics are and push myself to do well.
I also work hard as an athlete. I play multiple sports and enjoy all of them. To get better I weight train, attend camps and play in leagues throughout the summer and fall. I shoot and puck handle as much as I can to improve my aim and my hands. Improving speed and quickness are always goals of mine. I think one of my best traits as a player is my that I am very coachable. I want to learn as much as I can so I ask a lot of questions and take what I learn to the ice. I think I would be a great addition to a college team because of my work ethic and commitment to the team.
