Sports have defined me as a person from a very young age. I was introduced to both baseball and golf when I was very young. I had played baseball since I was 4 and made the transition to softball when I was 10. Softball has taught me many life lessons such as how to be a part of a team and how to work together to complete a common goal. I started getting interested in golf when I was 11 due to the game being about self-reliance and individuality. I started playing competitively when I was 13 prior to freshman year.
Starting Freshman year, I was selected to play on the Varsity Golf team with the lowest qualifying score. I was also playing 14/16U travel softball. These commitments along with my academics put a strain on my schedule. Because of this I had to make a choice on whether or not to keep playing travel softball. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make and it’s defined me as a person. Through this period, I learned how to manage my time and define what my priorities are. I also went through a journey of personal discovery on where my heart is. In making my decision I was able to further pursue and develop my golf game.
I lettered both in golf and softball in my Freshman year and I was able to reach my goals for golf this past season. I was able to reach my goal of a 5 handicap from a starting handicap of a 12. I was also able to consistently play in the mid 70’s from the men’s tees. I have also accomplished many things academically. I was selected to partake in a high level program in our state, The Commonwealth Governor School. I was one of 60 students selected for this program out of approximately 1700 in our county in my graduation year.
I am a competitive person. I set goals that I work hard to achieve and they push me to succeed. This makes me focused and driven. I have set goals for myself to meet through high school to steer me in a direction towards playing competitive college golf.
