Personal Statement

My name is Shannon Weber and I am a 2014 graduate from Kutztown, PA currently attending Kutztown Area High School with a 3.67 GPA. Last year, as a junior, I took Spanish IV Honors as my secondary language and this year, as a senior, I am taking Spanish V Honors. I am interested in studying meteorology and playing college golf. I have been playing golf since I was 3-years-old and as a freshman made the varsity golf team, playing competitively ever since. Throughout my golf career I have had some personally rewarding accomplishments that have meant a lot to me as a player. Last year and this year, I represented Kutztown Area High School at the PA State Championships held at Heritage Hills Golf Resort. I was announced the first girl from our school to make it to states for golf. I finished 5th at States and earned a medal. Another accomplishment I have made was when I placed 2nd this year and last at the Hershey Country Club Championship Tournament. I shot rounds of 78 and 79 on both the west and east courses this year. When I play golf, whether it is a competition or just for fun, I always manage to remain calm and stay focused. For me, playing competitively and under pressure allows me to improve as a player both mentally and physically.

My goal is to have the opportunity to play on a college golf team. I think it would be a significant building block in getting recognized for the LPGA, because my ultimate dream is to play on the LPGA tour. When I was younger, the LPGA would come to a local country club near us. My dad and I would attend these events and I would always admire each of the players. I remember the one time I got to hold the “Please be quiet” sign. I have also received signed gloves and balls from some of the women after their rounds. Watching them play now, I have come to understand their personal devotion to the game of golf.
