Personal Statement

A letter from my high school golf coach, he

My name is Alexander Allen and I have been the women's golf coach at Monte Vista High School for the past eight years. For the past two seasons I have had the privilege of having Paige Phillips on the Varsity team.  And we are very lucky to have her.  Paige has been one of the best additions to the MV golf team over the last several years.  The combination of talent, attitude , and overall dedication to the sport that she brings to the table is second to none.

To put things simply:  Paige loves golf.  She lives it and breathes it.  I have never seen a player as driven as Paige to improve her game.  Always on the range or out on the course, playing in tournaments year round; Paige has done everything in her power to get better.  And it certainly has paid dividends.  I have only witnessed her development over the past year and a half and the change as been remarkable.  The way she strikes the ball and the confidence with which she approaches a round have improved dramatically.  Paige's average nine hole match went down several strokes and she now consistently has one of the top two or three scores on the team.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Paige has a great attitude and approach to golf.  I've seen so many good, driven players who react terribly to setbacks.  If a round is going poorly, they are grumpy to others and refuse to put the full effort into every shot.  Paige is ALWAYS a good team member.  No matter how she is playing, she is kind and helpful to everyone in her group, with a smile on her face.  And she will always try to birdie the last hole; even if the round is going poorly.

Paige is a great player who keeps getting better and she is someone who makes those around her better as well.  I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Best regards,

Alexander Allen

  • I was very pleased with the way I played today. Shortly after teeing off a storm blew in. It dumped an inch of rain, had sustained winds of 15 mph and lasted most of the day. Play was interrupted for an hour and a half due to lightning. I shot 83, finishing 23rd out of 82. My team just missed going to State. The course played a lot longer than 5800 yards with a slope of 137 and 75.1 rating.
  • Camp/Event
  • Calaveras Jr Open
  • 8/10/15 to 8/11/15
  • I got sick and had to withdraw after 12 holes the first day. I was 4 over at the time.
  • Camp/Event
  • CWAC California Womens Amateur Championship
  • 8/04/15 to 8/08/15
  • I finished the qualifier in 57/64. The course was set up at 6200 yards, par 72. I shot an 86, but signed a card the scorer actually added wrong for an 87. I played the number 7 seed for the round of 64. I played well, 7 over thru 14, but lost 5/4. It was a great experience playing with the best college and high school golfers in California.
  • Camp/Event
  • San Francisco Jr Girls Championship
  • 7/29/15 to 7/30/15
  • I finished 7th of 17, 15-18 yr old girls, the field was international. Princess Mary Superal the previous USGA girls champion won the event. I shot 83 the first day, playing in pain. The second day I finished 3,3,3 to finish at 75. The 16th and 17th holes are 218 and 219 yard par threes and the 18th a very difficult par 4. I am very happy with the way I played, considering Ive been working on major swing changes.
  • Camp/Event
  • Diablo Valley Jr Chanpionship
  • 7/01/15 to 7/01/15
  • I shot 81, placing 5th in a field of 18, 7th overall girls out of 31. I feel like my game is starting to come around after a lot of hard work on swing changes. I shot 38 on front nine, bogeying the first hole. The yardage was 5750 yards.
  • Camp/Event
  • FCWT at Mission Hills
  • 5/02/15 to 5/03/15
  • I have been working hard on some major swing changes. Although my scores at this tournament could have been better, I had one nine that showed my ability. I struggled on the front nine, on the eight hole things began to click. My drive on the par five 11th hole went into the water, I hit two more into the water from the point the drive went in. I ended up with a ten. I'm really proud of what I did next. I finished the next 7 holes one under par to shoot 40 with a 10. I ended up with 86, 85 but came away knowing what I'm capable of.
  • Camp/Event
  • The City, San Francisco Golf Championship
  • 3/22/15 to 4/12/15
  • I qualified as #30 seed in the championship flight. Today I had to play the reigning NCGA player of the year and current CIF state high school champion. I lost 8/7, I felt I played fairly well but she was three under par after 11 holes. This is the largest amateur tournament in California. One day qualifier followed by match play. Harding Park TPC is site of former Presidents Cup, new site for World Match Play Championship and future PGA championship.
  • Camp/Event
  • Nature Valley First Tee Open
  • 9/26/14 to 9/28/14
  • I played well, shooting a 79 at Pebble Beach and a 77 at Poppy Ridge. My pro, Jeff Maggert, had a tough day putting at Poppy Hills, as a result of that and both of us making a double bogey on the same hole we didn't make the cut. Playing in a PGA event alongside a pro that played on 3 Ryder Cup Teams was an incredible experience and will help me grow as a competitive golfer.
  • Camp/Event
  • WWGA National Jr Girls Championship
  • 7/28/14 to 8/01/14
  • Co/am - I was 6 over par, unable to finish the last three holes due to lightning. Day one was really inconsistent. I shot 93, with, 2 birdies, 4 pars, a 9 and some double bogies. I'm working on a grip change and trying to get used to it has caused me to have a few bad rounds. Day 2 was better, I shot 39 on the front side and was on my way to break 80, when I hit my second shot into tall grass on 16, I had to take a lost ball and ended up with a triple bogie, then parred 17 and tripled 18. I ended up in 56th out of field of 96 in qualifying. Day 3, I lost my match 2/1. Day 4, I was down 3 holes with 4 to go, I won 15, 16 and 17 to go AS. We halved 18, I lost on the 19th. I ended up shooting 80. The course played 6014 yds, rating of 74.3, par 72.
  • Camp/Event
  • CWAC jr Girls State Championship
  • 6/23/14 to 6/26/14
  • Shot 71 in practice round, played poorly in qualifier. I drew the number one girl in points in Northern California for my match. Played much better in match, losing 4/3. Shooting 83, 6000 yds. Dunes course, white tees.
  • Camp/Event
  • IJGA Academy
  • 6/08/14 to 6/14/14
