Marissa Igunbor '17 Recruiting Profile

I fell in love with the game of basketball in the 5th grade. Throughout the years I have become not only a strong player, but a student of the game. I truly love this sport! Academics have always been a key consideration as I look at university options. I am ranked in the top 25 of my class and have and will continue to take several AP and Honors classes while in High School. I currently have a 4.6 GPA on a weighted scale, and have scored a 31 on my ACT. As I am considering my options for basketball at the next level, I am looking for a head coach and assistant coaches who are supportive of both my academic and athletic goals. The attributes I pride myself most on are leadership, strong work ethic, and positivity. I believe that I was chosen to be the captain of my AAU team and my high school team because I exemplify all three of these traits. I am viewed by my teammates, coaches, and fellow students as a leader on and off the court. 

Although naturally an offensive minded player, I pride myself on being a strong defensive player as well, and have used my defensive tenacity to turn games around. I have been the starting Varsity point guard for my high school team since the first game freshman year, but primarily play a 2 or 3 guard during the AAU Season.

Basketball has already provided me so many great opportunities; allowing me to travel the United States and create deep friendships not only with my teammates and coaches, but even opponents. The game has taught me that when you work hard, great outcomes can result, even in difficult circumstances. It has also opened my eyes to the various opportunities available for my future. I look forward to finding a university that allows me to pursue my academic and athletic dreams, while finding a team I can call my second family.
