Personal Statement

My name is Jaden Kelley and I am a current junior at Whitnall High School in Greenfield Wisconsin.  I live with my mom, my two younger sisters and my dog. When I am not playing basketball I love to do arts and crafts,  play volleyball,  go for runs with my dog, and I also really enjoy playing and caring for young kids including my little sisters.

I started playing the game of basketball in 5th grade for my school's select team. In high school I was hesitant to play, because I thought my height would set me back, I was wrong.  As a freshman I was a starter on JV.  The summer going into my sophomore year I decided to play my first year of AAU for CBA, a team out of Pewaukee. I came back a better player in all aspects of my game. This past year I ended the season as a varsity starter averaging nine points a game, and earning myself All Conference Honorable Mention. In March 2016 I began playing for Wisconsin Playground Elite, a traveling blue star national team. This summer I am looking forward to getting better in all aspects of my game, because there is always room for improvement. I am a fun loving and enthusiastic person on and off the court, and enjoy taking on leadership roles that I have been assigned. I believe that I bring a positive vibe to my team and everybody around me, and I hope to continue doing this in my college years.

After highschool I plan to go into the medical field, undecided on what major I want to pursue. Playing collegiate basketball has always been a dream of mine, and every day I work hard and dedicate myself to improving my athletic and academic abiliities.

Awards and Activities

  • Awards All-State All Academic Third Team
  • ActivitiesPeer Helpers is one of the many extracurricular programs I'm involved in. Peer Helpers is a program where I'm traveling to middle school to give Drug & Alcohol Awareness presentations to 6-8th graders. Project Lead the Way is another program I am involved in . This program is designed for young leaders at my high school in which you must be nominated by Administration in order to participate. Young leaders talk to younger children about life and how to get through rough times. Courage Retreat is also is a program in which you must be nominated for. The Courage Retreat is very similar to Project Lead the Way in which you talk to younger children and do hand on interactive activities. I enjoy the courage retreat because it gives me a chance to talk to kids one on one and share personal experiences and create a relationship. RESPIT day is one of the most influential programs I've ever been involved in. I have done respite day the past 3 years. RESPIT day is a program through Children's hospital where you spend a whole day with a child who has a physical, mental or emotional disability. It is a eye opening experience that I look forward to every year and has truly has an impact on me and how I go about my everyday life. My mom is a Home Healthcare Nurse also, so I often volunteer at some of her nursing homes on my spare time.
