My name is Caitlyn McMurray and I am 5’10” 140 lb shooting guard and post player on the Hays High School women’s varsity basketball team. As a freshman I was a starting player on the junior varsity team. This was certainly a different environment from 8th grade basketball, a longer season and longer games. I was up to the challenge though and as the season went on my playing time increased. Two highlights for me are in one game I scored the first 6 points and another game I scored 10 points as a season high for me! I train and play basketball year round. My spring and summer league us with Coach Stephanie Whitley currently Texas Full Potential. In August this summer our team traveled to Oklahoma City for a national’s tournament. This was my first experience at the national setting. While we did not make it to the final round, we played hard and personally I brought my best game and had my highest rebounds and blocks in a game ever. I feel my commitment and love of the game will make me a stronger player and I know this varsity season of my sophomore year of high school will be amazing.
Basketball is one consideration when selecting my college, it is also important that my educational goals are available to be achieved. When I am not working on basketball I enjoy photography. Photography is a passion of mine and I am working on putting together a portfolio. My favorite shots are of family trips, time with friends, and my dog, a silver lab named Steele. My photos I publish on an Instagram account. Last year as a freshman in high school I discovered an interest in American Sign Language. It can be difficult but I enjoy showing my family what I learn. I am interested in degree programs that support photography, ASL and business.
In my time at various basketball camps, UT, Henderson State, San Antonio Spurs, I have been told I am very coachable. I am a hard worker and bring a positive attitude to all aspects of not only the game but my desire to accomplish my goals. I feel I would be an asset to anyone’s basketball program team due to my dedication.
