Sports has been a passion of mine since I was 4 years old. I’ve played kickball, volleyball, softball, track, and basketball, but basketball has by far been the sport that I’ve committed myself to. I started playing basketball at the age of 10 years old with the Brownsville Boys and Girls Club/traveling team. We would travel and compete with teams from around the Rio Grande Valley. As a 6th grader, I got invited to play with the Lady Spurs traveling team. I played during school’s off seasons. As a 7th grade student in middle school, I was a starter in the “A” Team. I continued in the “A’” Team in 8th grade. Although, our team didn’t get far in neither of these two seasons, I didn’t get discouraged to stop playing the sport I truly enjoy. During these middle school years, I continued playing with the Lady Spurs, in which I started to become an outstanding player.
My accolades and accomplishments occurred during my high school years. As freshman, I was a starting varsity guard and contributed to an undefeated season with a district championship trophy. I was honored to receive the All-Metro and All-District Newcomer of the Year. These achievements motivated me to continue becoming the best player possible, and it allowed me to set high goals for myself through the rest of my high school career.
My aspiration is either to play in the WNBA and continue playing basketball, my passion sport, and/or to become a physical therapist and help others in any way I can. Because of these, I am interested in a college or university that will prepare me both academically and athletically; I want to continue playing basketball in a competitive athletic program (hopefully in a division 1), but at the same time be prepared in the education field I hope to complete.
I consider myself to be a good candidate for the women’s basketball team because I am a great leader. I motivate my teammates to never quit playing whether we are winning or losing. I am a player who does what the coaches ask me to perform on the court, and I am also a player that can play more than one position. I am also a fast learner and contribute well to a team.
What makes me different from other recruits is that I am a team player; I am selfless to be successful as a team. Academically, I study hard to make sure I aim to get an A in every class. Competing in the sport I have a passion for, motivates me to strive and continue doing well in my academics.
