Avery Burns '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Avery Burns and I attend Cimarron High School as a senior. I am 5'5" and weigh 135 pounds. I am very active in my school. I am a part of National Honor Society, A-Team, SADD, C-Club, and am a participant in varsity volleyball, basketball, and track. I have also been recognized as a Kansas Scholar this year. From the time I was little hard work was instilled in me, and that's when I had the dream of playing basketball after high school. When I was in grade school I got involved in many activities. I participated in basketball and track. I started with basketball in kindergarten and got involved in track when I was in third grade. I qualified to go to the Hershey National Track and Field meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania in the 4th grade.
As a freshman at Cimarron High I got a chance to start my first varsity basketball game as point guard. I didn't take the opportunity for granted and realized I needed to work even harder to keep my spot. Throughout my freshman, sophomore, and junior years I have been awarded as All-League 1st team (sophomore and junior year), All-League Honorable Mention (freshman year), All-Area 1st team (junior year), All-Area Honorable Mention (sophomore year), and All-State 1st team (junior year). This past season I averaged 17.2 points per game, 4.0 assists per game, 4.2 steals per game, and 5.5 rebounds per game. Being the point guard of my team, I like to drive the lane and either go in for the short jumper or dish off to my post players for the assist. I am not afraid to shoot the outside shot either. Throughout high school my team has accomplished many goals that we had set for ourselves when we were just in grade school. We were Hi-Plains League Champions and Sub-State Runner-Up this past year. 
As I have decided to pursue my dream further, I would like to go to a college where I can not only academically succeed but also athletically succeed. I would like to major in Athletic Training or Business. I am open to anywhere geographically. As a team player I will provide support for my team. I will give 110% in practice and in games and compete competitively and not give up. I am very determined and dedicated to my team. Basketball has taught me many things that have made me the person I am today and I can't wait to pursue my dream and become a team player for a level beyond high school.
