My name is Cleao Murray from Ankeny, Iowa. I am currently 5’9” and play with my school district (Ankeny Centennial-Scott Dejong) and I play AAU Basketball for “Kingdom Hoops-Ankeny, IA” (Coaches: Jake Sullivan (Iowa State University)/Ryan Carpenter (Grandview University). I cannot currently play at the high school level during the season due to state regulations. I received an invitation to play with my JV team last fall accepted and filled in at point guard leading in assists and scoring in many of the games. I've been working out with my varsity team for the summer in addition to playing my AAU schedule. I work very hard to maintain and develop high level ball handling skills in addition to shooting well for a taller girls for my age. I consider myself very agile for my size and have a good understanding of the entire floor.
Just to tell you a little bit about myself; I normally play forward, but will fill in at post from time to time-plus I can run the floor from the point guard position if needed. It frequently creates a competitive advantage for my teams. I have a very regimented work ethic and am typically on the basketball court 6 days per week year round with team practices, individual coach workouts and personal workouts. Most days I’m on the floor a minimum of 3 hours. I prioritize my academics-I am a straight “A” student. My parents have instilled a work ethic whereby my academics are my priority with basketball a close second. During the summer of 2016, I had the opportunity to play with the Iowa National MAYAB team in Oklahoma on the OU Campus. While I was there, I was fortunate to meet Coach Coale and tour their facility with Maddie Manning (My cousin who is also from Ankeny). I realized during that visit, that I wanted to play college basketball. In addition to my working out with the Ankeny Centennial varsity team this summer, I have attended two university elite & one position basketball camps. In addition, to basketball, I play volleyball (Ankeny AVBA-Melissa Becker) at highly competitive level but basketball remains my passion.
As a student athlete, I focus on high academic achievement. I do realize I am entering 8th grade, but I will be playing in the 14th Annual Midwest Showcase (EYBL) in Indianapolis, IN. July 5th-8th. The Nike Tournament of Champions (July 9-12, 2017) in Chicago at McCormack Place, in addition to the North Tartan Meltdown (July 23-25) in Bloomington, MN and will wrap my AAU summer up, at the Battle of the Best Tournament (7/27-7/30) in Ames, IA at All Iowa Attack. If you or you're coaching team will be at any of these tournaments, I would love to meet you and talk about the possibility of being a part of your team in 2022.
