I'm now in my senior year at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana, and it's been a great run so far. At Penn, I have been able to maintain a 3.98/4.0 GPA and a class ranking of 88/798 while participating in a very demanding high school basketball program. Being active in basketball for so long through my AAU teams Hoosier Premier and MBA Select, and through my school has taught me self-discipline, time management and leadership skills - all of which I will need in college and thereafter.
When I graduate from Penn next spring, I want to pursue a career in nursing and eventually become a nurse practitioner. My passion to help and serve others drives me to the field of nursing. I find the medical field so interesting and challenging!
An amazing highlight for me this summer was acceptance into a highly respected training program at our local hospital. I was able to learn from many medical speakers, experience different facets of the hospital itself, and learn important leadership skills. Another important highlight for me has been my participation in Big Brothers, Big Sisters Organization in our local community. This program has allowed me to mentor an elementary aged child in my school district.
I've been very fortunate to be a part of an extremely successful basketball program at Penn. This past season, we again advanced to the 4A Indiana Girls' State Finals, finishing as State Runner-Up. We've done well in the post-season in each of my high school years and have high expectations for this coming season. We've been blessed with a very deep team with a lot of talent, and most of my high school teammates have been a part of my same AAU program for years. Many of us have played together since the age of 9. Playing with these girls through the years has strengthened not only my basketball skills and IQ, but my personal passion for the game of basketball. I've set goals to make myself a better player in any way that I can. It's been a mixed blessing, though. I wouldn't trade my experience or my teammates for anything, but the strength and depth of our team has limited my minutes and stats up through my junior year. I've continued to work hard on my game, my strength and agility, and after a great summer, I look forward to contributing to my team's success in a dominant role this season!
I've also looked forward to playing at the next level for a long time and will do what it takes to get there. I'm a versatile player as a shooting guard or a small forward, where I believe my strength lies, although I've had experience at all positions through the years. I'm a dedicated, hard-working player, and I'm always willing to accept new challenges with a great attitude.
