Aloha my name is Rylee Matsuda from the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. I currently attend a private Christian School in Mililani, Oahu. I've attended Hanalani Schools for the past six years and I am currently a Senior. My current GPA this Senior year is 4.0. My career aspirations is to someday give back to my community and help those in need of caregiving. That is why am seeking to further my education in the medical field. For years nursing has always been at the forefront of my career aspirations however I haven't completely ruled out becoming a Medical Sonographer. My passion is basketball as I love team camaraderie, unity and enjoy the spirit of competition. My high school career consist of two years on the Junior Varsity team where I was a team captain and the team's leading scorer, assists and steals leader. I also played two seasons and preparing for a third season on the Varsity team. The 2021 season didn't have any official games due to COVID-19 restrictions. For the 2022 season we finished tied for 2nd place in the ILH Division 2 and finished 3rd place in the State of Hawaii Division 2 basketball tournament. During the 2022 season, I was a starting guard that was often depended on as being our team's "defensive specialist". Game to game I would guard our opponents best offensive player, sometimes even an opposing teams post player. Although I always gave up several inches and pounds to my opponent, throughout the 2022 season I've held every opponent I've guarded to under their season scoring average. On one occasion pitching a shutout "no point allowed". I've played Club Basketball for 76 South Basketball for the past 4 years and currently continue to do so. I play on the Varsity girls team where I spent the last couple of seasons as a starting guard. We compete in the City's highest level leagues and tournaments against the best players in the State. This years club season we participated in the End of Trail Nike Showcase tournament in Oregon, Jam on It Las Vegas Classic and Grand Finale tournaments. We ended up winning the Varsity division in the Las Vegas Classic. I traveled to San Diego where I participated in Point Loma Nazarene University Women's Basketball Elite Camp. I also love volunteer work. Every Sunday for 2-3 hours I volunteer my time coaching children in a skills and drills clinic put on by Takifit. I also do volunteer work with our local Police Department helping underprivileged children and cleaning up beach parks and communities. In between school, athletics and volunteering, I also love to dance. I've danced for 10 years in multiple genre's like Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical. I've even competed, placed and won in major dance competitions in the United States. I feel that I'm a well rounded student athlete that has a lot to offer both academically and athletically in my future endeavors. References can be provided upon request.
