Personal Statement

I believe the most successful athlete is the one who is the best team player.  For an individual cannot win a game single handedly.  I strive to make moves or passes that help give others on my team the best opportunity to shoot, pass or drive.  Don't get me wrong I love to shoot!  In my freshman year, I ranked 26th in the Girls High School Varsity Division 1 for total points scored.  I then moved up to 16th in the ranks in my sophomore and junior year.  I pride myself in the years of developing my court vision skills and my ability to create openings or getting someone open.  I have been the main point guard since my freshman year.  Though I am a little shorter than some I make up for it with court sense, ball handling, speed, pure determination and drive.  There is still much more to be learned and that excites me.

Above all this, what I think really sets me apart from most players is my love for playing defense.  It is my passion and I love the feeling I get when I shutdown or trap up a dribbler, knock away a pass, snag a steal, pressure the ball to cause a bad pass or grabbing a rebound.

Please don't take my word for this.  Please take a look at my highlights on youtube under Starr Rivera #14 Roosevelt.

I am a very unselfish person on the court and off the court.  I truly live my life with the thought of what goes around comes around.  Be there for others in need and one day, if ever I am in need, someone will be there for me.

As for academics, my intended major says a lot.  I study just as hard as I play on the court.  My parents taught me to try to be the best at everything I do.  Although I may never be the best,  I will always be the best that I can be.

To really succeed in any endeavor for which I set my sights. I see myself as a little acorn wanting to grow into a beautiful Oak tree.  Knowing that in order to keep growing strong.  A lot of nurturing and guidance is needed from all kinds of sources.  I am that acorn who keeps striving to become that tall Oak tree of strength and knowledge.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
