Growing up the daughter of 2 Navy Veterans I have learned how to set high standards for myself both in school and on the softball field. When I was younger I participated in a few different sports including gymnastics, cheer-leading and swimming. It wasn’t until I found softball that I felt like I really belonged. Over the years I have learned the value of teamwork and as a pitcher, the importance of demonstrating control by staying focused even in the most stressful situations. One of my proudest accomplishments is that as a successful starting pitcher on my High School Junior Varsity team in 8th grade, I was moved up to join the pitching rotation on the Varsity team. Facing the challenges of playing Varsity Softball in 8th grade and as one of two top pitchers on my travel team, I have gained valuable leadership experience. I am a big fan of Amanda Scarborough and her motivational messages and enjoy reading her posts while learning new ways to improve my game.
Thinking about my future college years makes me anxious and excited. To be honest, I’m not sure what career path I will take at this early stage. I have thought about becoming a nurse, becoming a lawyer, becoming a teacher or taking a business path. As a high honor student, I’m confident that my academic standing will support whatever choices I make. I do know, without a doubt, that I will play softball for as long as I can because I love it. I picture myself as a major part of the pitching rotation and a solid contributor to the batting lineup. I picture the lifelong friendships and the team’s competitive energy in the dugout. I picture making every coach I have ever played for proud. I picture my parents’ support and all of the years spent driving to games and tournaments and lessons and practices. I picture it all and I am hopeful because I have set my standards high.
