Ciera Jio '20 Recruiting Profile

My dream since I was very young was to be able to play softball in college. I started playing the game in kindergarten and haven't stopped since.

What makes me different is my height. I'm 6' and I'm not done growing yet. This gives me an advantage as a first baseman which is like my second home. In the last year, I've gotten so much stronger and I'm now my club ball team's power hitter.  I'm proud to say that from May to October 2016, I hit 17 over the fence homeruns (2 of those grand slams). 

Another part of me that makes me unique is that I'm hearing impaired. I can hear 80% in my left ear and 20% in my right. I wear a hearing aid on my left ear. Through the ears, this has never really been an issue with my coaches. Most of the time they're loud enough or I'm always watching for my signs. And, I can hear, just not as well as most people. I don't let it get in my way of pushing myself to be the best I can be. It probably makes me push a little harder.

I'm interested in studying business in college in hopes that I can own my own bakery some day. I've been told that my passion and happy energy is infectious on the field. I get excited for accomplishments and I always try to make people smile. Our team has walkout songs and mine is voted for the one that is most fitting. "Don't worry, Be happy." 

I work hard in school and have maintained perfect attendance since 3rd grade. I'm a freshman in high school and I've made the varsity team as a starter. I'm looking forward to exploring all of my options to play softball in college.
