I stepped onto the softball field for the first time in 2nd grade to play recreational softball, something I never expected to have the impact it does on my life. I instantly fell in love with the game and everything it brings, the ups, the downs, the confidence boosters and the humility. Within 4 years I decided to take up the next competitive level, travel ball. I saw that I thrived on the more competitive play, so I decided to play for the Hudson Valley Titans, a club level team. Seeing the next level of ball made me realize how much I crave competition and I decided that I need to play in college.
I believe my team's best tournament was one in our 2016 summer season. We started out on a bumpy road with one of our catchers getting taken out by a head injury in a collision at the plate the first game we played. That ultimately took our minds the wrong direction, resulting in us going 0-3 that Saturday. We were placed as the 8 seed out of 9 needing to win 4 games to compete for the Championship. That Sunday, we decided to do something to make our injured player proud. We ended up playing a total of 3 games that day, winning against the 1 seed that hurt our player and losing in the semis to the team that took the Championship trophy home. That tournament shows how much my team and I can push through rough times to make them better and how hard we can work.
Continuing my journey up the competitive ladder, I played on the JV team at my high school, Lakeland Regional High School in Wanaque, NJ. I started every game either at 3B, SS or C. I lead off in the order, finishing the season with a batting average of .400 and a .550 OBP. I have also been able to maintain a GPA higher than 3.5 (I haven’t received my final grades yet). I look forward to attending a school where I can push myself competitively on the field as well as in the classroom.Statistic | 2017 Junior Varsity | 2017 Hudson Valley |
