2017 Softball Hit...Personal Statement
I started softball just 2 years ago. I had played select soccer and loved it, but my step dad noticed I had an arm one day when we were playing catch in the backyard. That moment 2 years ago totally changed my life. I played rec for a season and was picked up to play select just after a couple months. What a whirlwind it has been! I have fallen in love with softball. Hitting, fielding, throwing and being on a team where your contributions matter. I asked why I was given a chance to play select so early, and it's because I am coachable. I know that I have to learn and I am willing to listen, learn it and apply it. I am proud of my arm and my batting but I know the fundamentals are critical so I work on those all the time. It has really paid off. I am lucky to have parents who believe in me and encourage me, but more importantly taught me the importance of hard work and commitment. When you want something, you have to work hard to earn it. Luckily, with softball, I can enjoy every minute of that work. I am very proud of my Blast Factor of 76 and my slugging % of 1.118, but even more, I hit my first home run of 210 feet at age 12.
