Personal Statement

My name is Haley Cupp and I am a pitcher and I play first base.  I have been playing softball for seven years now.  I have previously played on a travel team in Virginia but I just recently moved to Kentucky and started on a new travel team.  My goals for my team are to come together as one and play together instead players playing for themselves.  Teammates should get to know each other, have a way to contact each other and learn from each other.  The team should motivate their players and not always expect the coaches to do that.

Academically, I am very dedicated to getting good grades and taking the highest classes available.  Making straight A's is something I expect of myself, so I check to make sure my assignments are turned in and that I received the grade I earned.  I am also a perfectionist which makes it very hard to get anything but an A and it also makes me very hard on myself.  I would like to continue to play softball in college because it is such a large part of my life.

Playing softball has also helped me become a better person.  Softball has taught me many things.  Teammates should never talk about each other instead they should help each other and teach each other.  Teammates should not bring each other down.  Some players believe that hitting the ball and getting out is bad and react negatively but what they do not understand is that it isn't necessarily bad when you move the winning run over to third on that same hit.  I have always wanted to be an excellent pitcher but I have a different goal than most pitchers.  I do not exactly want to be the fastest pitcher but I want my spin to be perfection.  I want my curve ball to trick the batters and my change-up to make them question why they did not swing.  Being the fastest isn't always the best because if a team gets their timing then your pitching is no longer effective to this specific team.

Practice and conditioning are very important to me.  Conditioning in the core is one of my main focuses.  Having a strong core will help my balance, pitching, hitting and many other skills I need.  Practice is also important, especially small drills that work on specific mechanics.  Doing the small drills will help you develop the overall skill once you have perfected the drill.

One career I have always wanted is to be a pediatrician.  I have always wanted to work with kids but have also wanted to be a doctor.  By being a pediatrician I can do both.  I would also get to help them learn about themselves.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
